Fe3O4 nanoparticles with a diameter of 15 nm were prepared by chemical coprecipitation method with FeCl2 · 4H2O and FeCl3 · 6H2O as raw materials under alkaline conditions. N, O-carboxymethyl chitosan was prepared from chitosan and monochloroacetic acid in alkaline condition. Then, using glutaraldehyde as crosslinking agent, Fe3O4 nanoparticles were dispersed in N, O-carboxymethyl chitosan aqueous solution to form magnetic fluid. The magnetic fluid was dispersed into liquid paraffin continuous phase containing span 80 and Tween 80 to obtain n, o-magnetic carboxymethyl chitosan microspheres. The materials were characterized by IR, XRD, SEM, TGA and AAS.<br>
