Learning motivation is an essential factor, which has significant impact on students’ English learning. The strong learning motivation can facilitate students to learn English well. This paper investigates the English-learning motivation of 100 non-English major freshmen in Hexi University by questionnaires. The results show that: (1) The English-learning motivation of non-English freshman shows a diversified trend; (2) There are little difference between the internal motivation and the external motivation in affecting student’s English learning; (3) Factors such as employment, getting good jobs and obtaining relevant certificates under external motivation have a greater impact on their English learning. Finally, the paper gives specific suggestions on the improvement of students’ English learning motivation.
