If you view this composer from the perspective of the movie Amadeus, which was a total fiction, you are really missing hearing a wonderful Master Composer who had just that reputation in his own day. And this marvelous disc give FIVE wonderful examples of just how good Salieri was. Born in 1750, and passing in 1825 he lived long enough to compose a great deal. Here we have two piano concertos from 1773, two Overtures from 1782 and 1786 and last but certainly not least, indeed a piece alone worth the price of this disc, the Variations on La Follia Di Spagna written in 1815, likely his last and arguably greatest masterpiece and here rendered with David Nolan on Violin, and Pietro Spada, who conducts from his Piano the wonderful Philharmonia Orchestra. And a word on Mr. Spada, who has many of the very best discs of piano pieces for too long hidden from performance in the dusty archives of Europe and has released just masterful works by such as Sgambati, Clementi,Donizetti and the Complete Piano Music of John Field. If you enjoy Piano, you should own any thing Mr.Spada has EVER put out. But start with this which I think you will find will be one of your favorite CD's and destined to be played multiple times.
