I prefer to live in a neighborhood where everybody is friendly and helpful. Residents can communicate with their neighbors and are ready to lend a hand to those in need. Many kinds of neighborhoods exist in the present society. In some rural areas, young people have left for far awayjobs, so when their elders and children need help, they are not available. In metropolitan communities, residents tend to be self-centred and they are too busy to even know each other, let alone offer assistance to specific request. We do have some communities in small-and-medium-sized cities where people communicate a lot, offer mutual help and take pleasure in promoting community spirit. Such neighborhoods are admirable. An ideal neighborhood calls for our continuous contribution. A cheerful smile or a friendly nod shortens the distance between neighbors. On weekends or holidays, we can do some volunteer work: talking with lonely elders, cleaning the public places or organizing beneficial activities like book reading or health counseling. Such efforts will, in the long run, make a harmonious community.
