Power ResponseA small box speaker sitting on the floor will not create a convincing sound stage. This problem can be partially corrected by placing the box speaker on a tall speaker stand. But, something is still lacking. The total energy in the sound room is called "power response". A small speaker placed in the wrong place in a room may sound loud at the listening seat, however, if the sound pressure level is significantly lower in other locations, the result is poor power response. The interaction between an acoustical instrument and the space in which it is played is one of the ways in which the ear/brain perceives live vs. recorded sounds. Careful attention is paid to concert halls to achieve good sound for live music. The placement of loudspeakers in a room can also have dramatic effects-- and good power response is one of the goals of proper speaker placement.A floor-to-ceiling line-source speaker has superb power response. Good power response is part of the reason that a tall Magneplanar sounds more like live music. Which begs the question-- Why don't we offer models that are floor-to-ceiling? If consumers would buy them, we would offer them.
