The American Welding Society designation for the welding performed in this specification is “Gas Tungsten Arc Welding” or GTAW, which is a fusion process that produces the coalescence of materials with heat obtained from an arc between a non-consumable tungsten electrode and the weld pool. Shielding of the electrode and the weld pool is provided by mixtures of argon and other gases. This method is also known as “Tungsten Insert Gas” or TIG welding.
