The technician on site must verify that the balancing valves or orifices are providing the proper flow rates. The objective for the jacket water circuit is to achieve the proper flow and delta T through the engine by adjusting the balancing valve O1. Opening valve O1 will have the following effects: 1) engine flow will increase, 2) engine delta P will increase, and 3) engine delta T will decrease.Balancing orifice O5 is to be properly sized by the application engineers and used to equalize flows through the cooler and the cooler bypass. This is done by providing equal restriction (delta P) across the bypass orifice and across the cooler.Insufficient restriction at either point O1 or O5 may allow too much flow through the engine. The smallest orifice in the system is generally thought of as being in control of system flow. However, it is also true that restriction external to the engine is cumulative. Therefore, a change at either point will have some effect on flow.
