The Birth of New York (A.D. 1664)
In 1651, the war broke out between Britain and the Netherlands. In 1664, Britain defeated the Netherlands and acquired the territory of New Amsterdam, named New York, and became a British colony. In the second half of the 17th century, New York had a growing population and became a commercial center. The export of abundant agricultural products, the import of industrial products, and the development of the local economy made New York a headquarters of the slave market in the absence of labor. Trafficking in human beings was quite prevalent, but it also planted the seeds of anti-slavery in the future in the United States.
