These false reactivation effects were weaker, but still significant, when compared to veridical reactivation. Other studies have demonstrated activation differences in perceptual regions associated with true and false memories during both encoding and recognition. For example, activation in associative visual regions during encoding has been shown to be associated with both true and false memory formation, whereas primary visual regions were associated with true memory formation alone
