To minimize this risk, an ophthalmic ointment should be applied beneath the eyelids and the eyes should be taped closed preceding the skin dis- infection. Draping should provide for adequate exposure of the glabella area, the eyes, the preauricular area, the face, and the neck. Subsequently, the forehead area up to the nose is draped with a transparent foil. A 20-mm long, 1.4-mm-diameter Kirschner wire is placed in the glabella area. The distance between the Kirschner wire and the mid-maxillary incisor crown is recorded with a calliper and used for controlling vertical maxillary height when performing the Le Fort 1 osteotomy.
