Several indicators capture the effects social capital. There are six key variables measuring social capital that account for sociability, actions, energy, and involvement by the respondent. Social Trust is the tendency to which the respondent believes that other people can be trusted. The response choices range from “never” to “always.” Organizational Membership refers to the number of organizations of which the respondent is a member. This variable is an additive measure of the organizations to which the respondent belongs. Church Activity denotes whether the respondent has been an active member at their place of worship through activities such as committee service, spending time on special projects, or organizing meetings. It ascertains whether the respondent served on committees, spent time on special projects, or helped to organize meetings. The responses were coded 1 for yes and 0 for no.
