Class AbstractThe class addresses the specialeffects developers and technical directors who are looking for innovation aswell as proven methodologies in hair simulation. The audience will get a good grasp of the state of the artin hair simulation and will have plenty of working solutions that they can readily implement in theirproduction pipelines. The class will also be a bootcamp for aspiring computer graphics researchersinterested in physically based modeling. The class covers two crucial tasks in hair simulation: animation and rendering. For hair animation, we firstdiscuss recent successful models for simulating the dynamics of individual hair strands, before presentingviable solutions for complex hairhair and hairbody interactions. For rendering, we address issues relatedto shading models, multiple scattering, and volumetric shadows. We finally demonstrate how hairsimulation techniques are nowadays developed and applied in the feature films industry to produceoutstanding visual effects.PrerequisitesFamiliarity with fundamentals of computer graphics, physical simulation and physically based rendering isstrongly recommended but not mandatory. Overview of numerical linear algebra, differential equations, numerical methods, rigidbody dynamics, collision detection and response and physicsbased illuminationmodels would be a plus.Intended AudienceTarget audiences include special effects developers, technical directors, researchers, and any one interestedin physically based modeling for computer graphics
