Fig. 9 shows the (fS)1/2 T curves of welds of wrought Al alloy 2014 Al made without any filler metal and with 80% of the weld metal contributed by filler metal 4145 Al. In welding this is called 20% dilution, meaning that the filler metal is diluted by the 20% base metal present in the weld metal [3]. Also, the workpiece to be welded is called the base metal, the filler wire the filler metal, and the fusion zone the weld metal, even when they are all alloys instead of pure metals. The compositions of alloy 2014 Al, filler metal 4145 Al and the resultant weld are shown in Table 2
