Interestingly, Compounds 1a and 1b showed poor luminescence intensity (vide infra). The nitro group of 1a and 1b was converted into an amino group by hydrogenation using Pd/C catalyst in methanol. The reaction of the resulting Compounds 2a and 2b with methacryloyl chloride was carried out in dry dichloromethane containing dry triethylamine.
