Crowdfunding refers to a way of generating moneythrough the cooperative efforts that use a largegroup of people primarily through social media,crowdfunding platforms, and blockchain (digitalledger), to leverage those networks for better reachand exposure (KomodoPlatform, 2017). Crowdfundingis relatively affordable, making it accessible for startupsand for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) tosecure capital, minimize risk, maximize promotion,and obtain feedback by using large groups offunders (Kickstarter, 2018). Specifically, crowdfundinghas the potential to provide economic benefits byimproving access to revenue generation, drawingmoney and attention to ignored issues, while fosteringsocial engagement (Renwick & Mossialos, 2017).Crowdfunding is also important to local communitiesand the national economy due to its ability to generateeconomic impact through the creation of jobsand increased income attributed to direct visitorspending (Renwick & Mossialos, 2017), and ultimatelyresulting in attracting new tourists that continue toincrease direct spending in visitor economy sectors.
