The temperature object of heating furnace has the characteristics of large lag and large inertia. Therefore, in the temperature control of heating furnace, the classical PID control is difficult to achieve satisfactory control effect. Therefore, an advanced control strategy, generalized predictive control, is proposed. In this paper, the generalized predictive control is used to design the heating furnace temperature controller, which is simulated with PID control at the same time, and the results are analyzed. The simulation results show that compared with the traditional PID control, the generalized predictive control reduces the overshoot and the control effect is more stable.
