The sintering behavior of the monosized, spherical (MP) Y203 powder was superior to that of the raw (RP) Y203 powder. Full densification of MP pellets was inhibited by the occurrence of exaggerated grain growth. One proposed benefit of monodispersed powder is a uniform green microstructure, which should suppress grain growth and especially exaggerated grain growth. However, in the present study, the green pellets likely contained packing defects common to that of dry pressing. Perhaps an improvement to this work would be to consolidate powders from deflocculated suspensions by sedimentation or slip casting.
