In generalizing from the case study, using existing literature to assess the extent ofgeneralizable findings is important (see Eisenhardt, 1989). The aim of writing with a clearconceptual framework rather than a narrative will also help to relate theory to the literatureand aid generalization. Where the researcher has been able to undertake more than one casestudy, this clearly increases confidence in the findings, by enabling cross-checking andcomparison (for example, Brown and Eisenhardt, 1998). However, even a single case studycan be the basis of generalizing, and it may later be tested through replication or additionalstudies.
