Disaster-Recovery Plan A disaster-recovery plan (DRP) describes activities that take place once the initial response to the emergency is over. Planning for this phase develops alternatives for reestablishing operations when property, processes, information systems, and people have been disrupted. If the building is unusable, what are the arrangements for temporary facilities? If the computer systems are inoperable, how and where will the off-site backups be reinstalled to continue operations? If transportation systems and roadways are damaged, how will employees get to work? One important factor to consider in the DRP is compliance with SOX requirements for information safety. This requirement is discussed in Chapter 3. Another element to include in the DRP is a list of alternative vendors, suppliers, and service providers that can provide materials or support when normal sources are affected by emergencies and unable, either temporarily or permanently, to continue in the aftermath. This may make the difference in an organization’s ability to continue servicing customers after an emergency.
