Social network analysis uses a variety of techniques pertinent to understanding the structure of the network (Scott, 2012). These techniques range from simpler methods, such as counting the number of edges a node has or computing path lengths, to more sophisticated methods that compute eigenvectors to determine key nodes in a network (Fan &Gordon, 2014).
