Many's impression on Natalie is that "she is in a wheelchair". In fact, Natalie usually spends more time in bed than in her chair every day. Because of the complete paralysis from the neck down, all her muscles have shrunk. As a result, Natalie looks so "flat" when lying in bed except for her protruding "quad belly". She needs adjustments to her position every two hours to prevent bedsores. Without the buffering of the muscles, her skin is easily get hurt due to the pressure of her body. Sometimes her limbs have to be arranged in a weird position, but Natalie has got used to that. Every time Natalie use a mouth-stick, she asks her caregiver to put one of her hands near her face. When she needs to sip the water, that hand can work as a stick-holder on which she can put down her mouth-stick. That's probably the only use of her hands.
