Weld Preparation and FinishThe weld joint may be formed by thermal cutting, machining or chipping and grinding. The weld profiles shall be as specified and shall be free from harmful imperfections arising from preparation. Suitable precautions shall be taken to avoid detrimental embrittlement effects on cut edges from shearing, thermal cutting or thermal gouging.The joint and surrounding area (50 mm or 1 -31/32 in either side of the joint) shall be free from rust, scale, moisture or any other deleterious material.All edges to be welded should be suitably cleaned and care must be taken to prevent contamination of edges being prepared for welding.All material of 3 mm or 0 1/8 in thick and over shall be suitably edge prepared in accordance with the appropriate regional standardsAll equipment used on stainless steel shall be kept separate and used only for that purpose. Only sanding discs approved for used on stainless steel shall be used.Weld profiles should be smooth and even, and not exhibiting weld. In any event the limitations given in the section, ‘Inspection and Testing’ shall apply.
