1.11 Terminal boxesTerminal boxes must be installed so that they are accessible at any time, even during ongoing production, without the necessity for removing the protective covering and without having to enter protected zones.A minimum clearance of 300 mm must be left between the bottom side of the terminal box and the floor.The terminal boxes must also be accessible without the necessity for using any additional climbing aids (ladders, etc.).Terminal boxes which, due to their design, have to be mounted in a manner not complying with these requirements must be agreed upon previously with the Customer’s operating department.Terminal boxes for the connection of sensors / actuators must be designed as decentralized fieldbus units if the number of sensors / actuators connected totals >= 16.The terminal boxes must be placed at the system near the corresponding sensors / actuators; the sensor / actuator cables should not exceed a maximum overall length of 5 m. If individual sensors / actuators require longer connecting cables, a plug connection must be installed near the sensor / actuator.Sensor / actuator cables of terminal boxes to the sensors / actuators must be installed so that they can be replaced easily and within max. 15 minutes.Cable entry from the bottom. As cable entries, skintop screw connections are to be used.The use of multiple screw connections is not permissible.Basically, terminal boxes with quick-release locks (double-bits) are to be used.On the outside, terminal boxes have to be permanently labelled with an engraved plate.The terminal strip number must be specified.If an active module (e.g. EtherCAT bus coupler) is used in the terminal box, the module ID and the node address must be specified on the plate as well.Manufacturer: Rittal (type must be agreed with the operating department in charge).
