Although hydrogen molecules have a very high energy density on a mass basis, partly because of their low molecular weight, the gas has a very low energy density by volume under ambient conditions. If it is used as a fuel stored on the car, pure hydrogen must be pressurized or liquefied to provide sufficient driving range. Increase the gas pressure, increase the energy density in the volume, use a smaller, but not light container. Achieving higher pressure requires more use of external energy for power compression. Alternatively, liquid hydrogen or hydrogen slurry with higher volume energy density can also be used
