Although, as indicated above, there are many existing studies focused on SCR, there is still opportunity to address several gaps in the literature. First, most of the SCR literature focuses on firm-level resilience, or the resilience capacity of individual companies, rather than taking a complex network perspective and considering the influence of network structure and the performance of the entire supply chain (Kim et al., 2015; Nair and Vidal, 2011; Zhao et al., 2011, 2019). Because current supply chains are complex and tightly coupled network systems by nature, long-term collaboration between firms within such networks is necessary for the overall supply chain to achieve high levels of performance. It is, therefore, critical to have an overall network perspective of SCR.
