To do this project you’ll need a piece of un-stretched canvas or linen that you’ll prime with gesso. Tack the canvas to a wall, large drawing board, or piece of plywood. Make sure you tack at regular intervals so the surface will remain flat. Give the canvas at least two coats, one horizontal, let it dry, then another vertical. Once fully dry, start the drawing with vine charcoal. As your composition becomes clear, you can use compressed and charcoal pencil, too.
