6 Configuration of the Smoke Detection SystemIMPORTANT NOTE:Configuration of the SDS smoke detection system is already carried out by manufacturer, prior to delivery. Observe to the following instruction only, if a spare part is to be configuredfor the system or if the smoke detection system is to be readjusted (for example in case ofship rebuilding)The following configurations can be carried out:setting the device addresses see section 6.1setting the highest line and device address number see section 6.2customer-specific setting of the fire alarm message see section 6.36.1 Setting the Device AddressesThe device addresses are set via the rotary switch on the control module and the relay box module. The device addresses serve to identify the devices during data transfer on the RS-485-bus and toidentify the devices with fault warnings on the LCD. The device address “1” is reserved for thesmoke detection panel. Other device addresses must be assigned consecutively from that point on.The highest allowable device address no. is “4”. During setting the rotary switches, the smokedetection system should be switched off.Step Action Instructions1 Set the address forthe smoke detectionpanelSet the rotary switch on the control module inthe smoke control panel to the value “1”.2 Set address(es) forthe repeater panelsSet the rotary switch on the control module inthe repeater panel on the bridge or in firecontrol room to the value “2”. All otherrepeater panels will receive subsequentnumbers.Note: The selected address will appear alongwith any fault warnings from the device at theLCD, i.e. “FAULT: Data Transfer Device -3-“.The repeater panel with the address no.2receives special functions. For moreinformation see section 2.2.3.3 Set address(es) forthe relay boxSet the rotary switch of the relay box to thenext available address. The highest allowableaddress is “4”. If no repeater panel is used, set the rotary switch to “2”6.2 Setting the Highest Line and Address NumberFor the purpose of self supervision the smoke detection panel must know the highest detection linenumber and the highest address number of the actual system. These values will be determined andsaved in a semi-automatic configuration mode. The configuration will normally be done beforedelivery of the smoke detection system. If later the arrangement of the system will be changed (for example a repeater panel shall beadded), the configuration of the smoke detection panel must be modified. The followinginstruction explains, how the highest detection line number and the highest address number of theactual system values will be determined and saved. Prior to this procedure the smoke detectionsystem must be installed completely. For the correct setting of the device addresses of the external devices, please refer to section 6.1.Step Action Instructions1 Set configurationmodeSet the rotary switch on the control module inthe smoke detection panel to the value “0”.Note: After completing the semi-automaticconfiguration mode, the rotary switch must beset back to the value “1”2 Determine thehighest detectionline and addressnumbersTurn the smoke detection system on or proceed areset (see chapter 4.8.2). The smoke detection panelwill now look for the smoke detector with the highestline number and the device at the RS-485-bus withthe highest address number. After a few seconds anacoustic signal will sound and the results will bedisplayed, i.e.:
