A personnel lift shall be installed adjacent to the inclined stairs on the port side leg. In event of lift failure, persons trapped in the lift must be able to escape safely via the inclined stairs. Personnel lift selected for the cranes shall be designed for crane use and had been installed on cranes.Mast of the lift shall be made of tubular sections of not less than 4.2 mm thick. The car shall have structures made of square steel sections with roof, walls and floor made of marine-grade aluminium alloy plates. The mast, boarding place doors and structures of the car shall be hot dipped galvanized.The power supply for the personnel lift shall be separated from the crane drive systems power supply such that the lift operation shall not be affected in the event of fault developed in the main drive systems. The relay for the power supply to the personnel lift shall be able to reset automatically when the power supply to the crane is resumed after a power failure or other interruption, if there is no fault to the lift system. Multi-pins socket outlet and pendant control to operate the lift from the top of the lift car shall be provided for maintenance purposes.The lift shall be designed for maximum safety and reliability and must meet the relevant design standards. It shall have a capacity for 3 persons with tools and equipment (240 kg) and travelling speed of at least 30 m/min. Safety device to stop the ascending or lowering motion smoothly in case the normal travelling speed is exceeded shall be provided. A centrifugal brake shall be provided for bringing the lift car to the ground by gravity at normal speed without actuating the safety device.Three (3) boarding places shall be provided, one at the ground level and the other two at the top of the crane leading to the operator’s cabin and the machinery house. The ground boarding shall be located at a position or height clear from traffic of double stack chassis. The stairs leading to the ground boarding place shall have sufficient clearance above the cable channel covers. Doors at the boarding places shall be sliding type or double-leaf hinged doors.The lift car shall be well ventilated, protected from rain and shall have a minimum floor area of 1.2 meter x 1.0 meter. It shall return automatically from the top landings to the ground after an inactive time of 5 minutes. Glass panels of about 300 mm x 300 mm shall be provided on the walls and door of the lift car. Doors of the lift car shall be of sliding type. Louvres shall be provided on the walls for ventilation purpose. An exhaust fan with capacity to replace hot air in the lift car at 3 air changes per minute shall be provided. The fan shall operate automatically when the lift car is ascending or descending.One of the following brand of the personnel lift shall be used:ALIMAK, K-HOISTS, KAINAN, YONEYAMA or eqv.
