7.3 INTRODUCTION TO ADVANCES IN OTOACOUSTIC EMISSIONS IN THE PAST 5 YEARSMost of the advances in OAEs for clinical use in the past 10 years have been in the realm of the signal processing capability of the measurement instruments to separate the OAE signal from background noise, and to improve the design of the probes and software to be more user-friendly. In the research realm, advances in the analysis have enabled a better understanding of the generator sources of OAEs, as well as advances in stimulus-frequency emissions and chirp stimuli that may improve detection of mild and very high-frequency hearing loss.
