we introduce the activities of Research Centers of MIE Plant Factory for Intelligent Plant Production Systems supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, where year-round cultivation of tomato and strawberry are demonstrated in greenhouses under highly controlled environments using ubiquitous environment control system (UECSReg.). Results of over one year running of the greenhouses indicate important issues to address to perform year-round management of greenhouse horticulture more effectively by construction of complete manuals of environment control, establishment of methods for effective environmental control against excessive increase of temperature during the summer season and designing a schedule of pest and disease control throughout the year. Finally, we present future prospects for increasing yield and quality of products and performing flexible and steady production in year-round cultivation.
