The minority carrier holes diffused to the junction surface will be pulled to the P-region by the built-in electric field, while the minority carrier electrons diffused to the junction surface will be pulled to the N-region by the built-in electric field, and the electron hole pairs produced in the junction area will be pulled to the N-region and the P-region by the built-in electric field respectively. When the external circuit is in an open circuit state, these photogenerated electrons and holes will accumulate near the PN junction, resulting in additional positive charge in the P-region and additional negative charge in the N-region, and photogenerated electromotive force on the PN junction. This phenomenon is called photovoltaic effect, also known as photovoltaic effect. Solar cells work according to photovoltaic effect.<br>
