Sight • This is the most important sense used in observation. Most of the information you receive on patrol will be through your eyes. • You must have your vision checked regularly and always wear glasses if you need them. If it is difficult for you to switch from seeing at a distance to close up, you may need progressive lenses. • While on patrol, you must actively scan large areas and examine small areas in detail. Learn to develop eye control—look at things rather than through them. • Look for differences rather than similarities. There are hundreds of blue vans, but few with a dented right rear bumper with red paint on the dent. • Be aware of things that can distort or affect your ability to see. The following table gives some special conditions and suggestions of how to deal with them.
