In this paper, the concept of plasma is introduced. The wear of metal parts is a major problem of increasing energy consumption, increasing the replacement rate of parts, increasing the cost of production and application, and reducing production efficiency. Therefore, how to improve the wear resistance of parts and implement surface modification treatment is a very important problem. In this paper, two methods of surface modification of metal materials by low temperature plasma technology are described. The plasma electrodeposition technology is briefly introduced, and its application prospect and existing problems are analyzed. At last, the development of plasma surface modification technology is prospected. Low temperature plasma technology is a new surface modification method for metal materials, which has the advantages of high efficiency, low temperature, no line of sight process and mass production. Moreover, the process is simple, the process parameters are easy to control, and there is no environmental pollution. It can realize large-area modification of complex workpieces and the modification effect is good, so it has a broad application prospect.<br>
