For the results of the single pile (P1), the Type II prediction and the measurements agree well with each other, but for pile groups, the Type II predictions slightly oveestimate the measurements at a low load. Fig. 13 also shows that at a high load, the Type II predictions underestimate the measured deflection rather considerably. This might be because, under alarge lateral load, the effectiveness of the reinforced concrete pile cap is reduced, one possible reason being the cracking of the pile cap.
