I always keep an eye open and love to find images that inspire my colour sense and make me smile. The picture of the building with brightly dressed models standing in the windows is one of my favourites. The photographer came across the building, which was derelict and due to be demolished the next day, and quickly organized the shoot – that would never be allowed today. Another image that I came across when I was a student really inspired me then and still does. On the road to Thoiry (1970) was taken by the Swiss photographer Peter Knapp (b.1931) for the French fashion house Courrèges. The empty road and open landscape evoke a feeling of youthfulness and adventure, while the two graphic spots of colour – the space-hopper and the bright orange Renault 4 van – are playful and nostalgic at the same time. There’s so much carefree energy in this picture – it seems to say that anything is possible. For me, what it also taps into are childhood memories of summer holidays.
