At the ambient temperature, even though, the water picked up by hydrogen will be very low, the difference in performance of the fuel cell electrode, when operated between dry condition and by bubbling is small, which is enhanced when the cell is humidified. As the vapour pressure of water is increased by heating the bottle there is even an onset of electro-osmotic dragof the water by humidification dominating the back transport as shown in Fig.5. From the figure, it is clear that water collection at the anode also increases with the bubblingand humidification at higher temperature, and performance also simultaneously improves. Hence, one has to take into account the area of the electrode, when operating a PEMFC using dry gas.
