Understanding more precisely the intrinsic reasons for high densification remains a difficult concern. One of the best ways to avoid too much heating would be to act on the grain shape. Doh-Yeon Kim performed very interesting work1–3 concerning the effect of grain shape on the grain-coarsening behavior during liquid-phase sintering. He explained the reasons for the mechanism to be either diffusion or 2D nucleation during sintering and depending on the grain shape. However, he did not develop the real impact on the final density.
