Montessori education came to our world more than 100 years ago. Just think about that time, people were barely travelling and technology was in very basic level. Not so many people were concerning existence of the technology, it was just job of builders or engineers. After 100 years later, Technology became indispensable part of our daily life. Children’s technology usage also increased incredibly. So, people can question about an education system that bornt more than 100 years ago. There are mixed views on the place of technology in the Montessori schools. While some schools have very strict regulations, some schools use it regularly, but only in a purposeful, meaningful way.Studies are indicating that excessive usage of electronic devices can lead attention problems, difficulties at the school, sleep and eating disorders, and obesity. While the situation is very dangerous, many doctors advice to limit children’s screen time. Let’s make a comparison for a same activity with different way of doing. I saw an APP that people can play the “Pink Tower” with their phone. We have the same activity in our class, ten cubes with different sizes. With the real version of the activity, kids can feel the weight, learn how to pick it up, set it down ( gross motor skills), younger age groups can even try to taste it, so we see many sensory input there. A little older kids learn how to fit two cubes, how to set them together, sequence them, categorize and sorting them. Pink tower cubes could be very divergent so kids can make many different things with it. Let’s talk about the e-version of the activity. Is that teaching something to the kid? Yes, it’s teaching something. Kids learn something through that experience with the technology. They have may design the way they design with the real blocks. However, during the process kids are unable to make sounds, feel and taste. So, children are missing a lot of things which is really important for them. Montessori education is not really big fan of using high-tech in the casa classrooms. This is a little opposite of some other today’s schools methods. This might not always be appealing to the child who enjoys technology embedded in every aspect of their life. As we see healthy usage of technology is really important. Parents should be aware of the downsides of excessive usage and take more accurate steps for their children. Here I post the week’s activity pics, enjoy the Sunday...
