All indications support the conclusion that the centrifuge model tests can reliably show us the failure mode or mechanism of the wharf at the actual site. The strain on the piles changed sign in the sand layer irrespective of the pile row. This fact represents that the inflection points in the piles deflection existed at this level, and there was large relative displacement between the rubble mound and the bearing stratum as shown in Fig. 14. The deck moved seaward because of lateral movement of the rubble mound and the piles behaved as a passive pile.
