The system in this example is a glass tube manufacturing system. Quartz sand is fed into the top of a furnace. The sand is melted to glass inside the furnace. The glass tubes are drawn at the bottom. This glass tube manufacturing process has two inputs and two outputs. The inputs are drawing speed and mandrel pressure. The drawing speed is the speed at which the tubes are pulled out of the bottom of the machine. The mandrel pressure is the pressure applied to the mandrel at the top of the machine. The outputs are the geometrical parameters of the tubes: mean diameter and thickness. Two input-output data sequences were measured at sampling frequency of 0.5 Hz. The first one (1355 points) is used for identification process and the second one (893 points) is used for validation of the results. For both input signals, a pseudo random binary noise sequence was used as an input.
