ANY EXCAVATION WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY UNDERMINE AN EXISTING FOUNDATION SHALL BE BRACED, SHORED OR FOUNDATION SHALL BE UNDERPINNED OR OTHERWISE PROTECTED AGAINST SETTLEMENT OR LATERAL MOVEMENT. AN EXCAVATION WHICH INTERSECTS AN IMAGINARY PLANE WHICH EXTENDS 45 DEGREES TO THE HORIZONTAL, PROJECTED DOWNWARD FROM THE BOTTOM TOE OF THE ADJACENT FOOTING, IS CONSIDERED TO HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO UNDERMINE THE FOUNDATION.
