I spent couple of weeks studying at Stanford Medical Centre, the lectures on how biotechnology helped achieve the equality provided me new perspectives. The most impressive presentation was on Dr. Eagleman’s vests which allow deaf people to “hear sounds”. I used to believe that lending a hand was a suitable way of helping, but respect, equality and more opportunities are what they really want. What I appreciated was that, other than medicine or operations, they are create ways to help vulnerable groups to experience life, by adding warmth to pragmatic biotechnology.
