Peritoneal cancer index (PCI): PCI is a scoring system that quantifies the extent of PC indicating the summation of the lesion size in each one of the 13 different abdominopelvic regions that the abdominal cavity is separated into. Depending on the size and dimension of the tumor each area is rated on a scale of 0 to 3, so that the total score of PCI can vary between 0 and 39. PCI predicts the likelihood of incomplete cytoreduction and has also been recognized as one of the most important prognostic indicators for the long-term outcomes of colorectal PM patients. Many authors demonstrated that the greater the PCI score is, the worse the prognosis is. Based on results from aforementioned studies, PCI exceeding 20 is considered as contraindication for CRS and HIPEC.
