A significant proportion of the academic research on skin aging and skin health has been done by, or inspired by, Dr. Gary Fisher in his 30+ years at the University of Michigan (U of M). Dr. Fisher's research focuses on the biochemical underpinnings of premature skin aging, especially sun-induced or photoaging, and the specific pathways that lead to chronological skin aging. Among his accomplishments:• His model of the fundamental basis of skin aging is now considered the academically accepted explanation.• He started the U of M biopsy collection program so testing could be performed ex vivo (meaning on real human skin cells).
