2)The design feed rate to the OEC is 4201 kg/hr of waste water containing 45,500 wt ppm phenol. This is equivalent to 191 kg/hr of pure phenol. The OEC can accept a higher than design feed rate, but at a lower phenol concentration such that the total mass of phenol fed remains near 191 kg/hr. The reverse is also true in that if the phenol concentration is greater than 45,500 wt ppm the volume feed rate should be reduced to limit the amount of phenol to 191 kg/hr. Actual experience operating these columns will determine the amount of margin in managing more phenol.
