Waiters are not servants. It takes training, practice and experience to be a good waiter. Waiting tables is not the same as being a teenager serving hamburgers in a fast food restaurant! I’ve been a waiter at Giovanni’s Gourmet Italian Restaurant for five years. I chose to be a waiter. I love giving good service and making sure the dining experience is perfect. However, not all customers are polite. Some think that because they are paying a lot of money to eat in a fine restaurant, they can order the wait staff around. The wait staff serves the meals and the drinks, but it’s not our job to meet customers’ every need. Today, a couple and their child came into our restaurant to celebrate the child’s birthday. They were some of the worst customers I have ever had. Their behavior was very impolite. The father wanted me to sing “Happy Birthday” to the child. The child wanted me to cut up his spaghetti(意大利面). The mother wanted me to find an electric plug for her mobile phone! They seemed very rich. However, even though they may have servants at home, it wasn’t my job to act like one of them. In a way, I felt very sorry for them because they didn’t know how to treat waiters politely. After they left, I decided to bury the memory of their visit and looked forward to serving nicer customers!
