Our results also show that the odds of early breastfeeding cessation progressively decrease when more key family members prefer breastfeeding. Many new mothers face considerable uncertainties and anxieties about breastfeeding in the first few weeks postpartum. Having more breastfeeding supporters in the immediate social network may provide the affirmation and reassurance they need to continue breastfeeding as family members are likely to recommend mothers to stop breastfeeding if problems arise or they perceive that the baby is hungry.
