The Earth is covered in a blanket of gases. It’s called our atmosphere or air which is a collection of difference gaes. These gases are what we breathe and what helps plants grow. Some of the gases are good for us and some are not. But they are in a good balance and that is how life stays on Earth. It’s wonderful that we have this atmosphere around us. Our atmosphere protects us from many things. Rocks in space coming at us burn up before they hit the ground. Rays that come from the sun that can hurt us are blocked by our atmosphere as well. Some of the heat from the sun gets in and some doesn’t. That’s good. Think about your own bed. The temperature has to be just right. If the blanket is too thick, you get too hot. If it’s too thin you’ll get cold. The earth needs its blanket to be just right and the way we take care of that blanket is by not polluting it much. If the pollution accumulate and eventually damage the atmosphere, we may lose the protection from this nice big blanket.
