The career path is defined only by the firm and followed by the lawyers, the ‘herding cats’, as the phenomenon is known in the industry. Lawyers working in law firms are groomed to address career in a progressive steps upward, labelled by Sturges (1999) as a climber career type. Lawyers’ careers are mostly determined by partner-rated performance, rather than a result of career selfmanagement. A long-term career plan, different from the partnership within the firm where they have begun as interns, or in a different one, is not a reality for the majority of lawyers (Margarida et al., 2018).
