「主！ 我不堪当你到舍下来，你只要说一句话，我的仆人就会好的。 因为……」。果然，他得到了耶稣的赞赏与应允。因着百夫长的信德与怜悯，仆人便好了，也就是因着一个人的善意，别人受益；我们也因着耶稣的善意、赎罪、爱，整个人类的命运也改写了。信德不是仆人的，而是百夫长的，但仆人也受益了；功德是耶稣的，但，通功嘛！我们也得救赎了。作为耶稣的门徒，我们也会透过提供物质和灵性的需求去服务他人。就如伯多禄的岳母痊愈后立刻起来服务他人。然而，我们许多人，「丧失了功能」。就像伯多禄的岳母和百夫长的仆人，我们是「躺着发烧」，或是「瘫痪了，躺在家里，疼痛的很厉害。」（玛8:6-14）我们需要借着信德，让耶稣一句话就会痊愈。天主能够接受最坏的罪人和最没有能力的人，并且使他们为他人服务。无论如何，我们在基督和信德内，都是在「服务中」。
